The Highlander’s Christmas Lassie by Anna Campbell:

Malcolm Innes and Rhona Macleod were teenage sweethearts, and when Rhona discovered that she was pregnant, Malcolm immediately asked her to marry him.  Unfortunately, Malcolm’s father, the Laird of Dun Carron, declared that a crofter’s daughter was not good enough for his son and heir.  He enacted a heinous plot to separate the young lovers permanently, sure that his son would eventually come around and marry a suitable lady.

What the laird didn’t count on was Malcolm’s steadfast love and strong character.  Though it has been over seventeen years since his love was taken from him, he continues to search far and wide, even to America, in hope of finding Rhona.  Now, on Christmas Eve, he’s tracking down a rumor of a young man who is the spitting image of himself.  When said young man opens the door, Malcolm knows he’s come face to face with the son he never knew.  Much to his dismay, the boy’s mother, Rhona, harbors a deep hatred for Malcolm, believing that he betrayed her all those years ago.

As Malcolm struggles to convince Rhona that he was as much a victim of his family’s plotting as she was, he realizes that his love and passion burns as strong as it ever did.  Even when Rhona finally accepts the truth, and lets her hatred melt away, she has no intention of rekindling a long ago romance.  Malcolm is a stranger to her now – she moved on and built a successful and comfortable life for herself and her son.   It will take a Christmas miracle to change Rhona’s mind, and let her open her heart back up to the love she buried deep.

Malcolm is truly an extraordinary hero.  He never gave up on finding Rhona and his child, even to the point of near-illness, all the while remaining constant to her.  Even upon learning that she believed all the lies and lost faith in him, he forgives, and is just thankful she and their son managed to stay alive and thrive.  Malcolm is truly a swoonworthy hero, one very deserving of all the happiness that’s bound to come his way.  THE HIGHLANDER’S CHRISTMAS LASSIE is an emotional and poignant romance, a warm holiday read with a hero who is the stuff dreams are made of.    ~Rose
