Title: My True Love

Author: Melissa Foster

Genre:  Contemporary Romance

About My True Love:

Can a man who resents the hand he’s been dealt and a woman who spends her days grateful for every little thing find true love in each other’s arms—or are their differences stronger than both of them? Find out in this funny, sexy, heartfelt romance, and fall in love with Grant and Jules on the sandy shores of Silver Island, home to coffee shops, boat races, and midnight rendezvous.

Even war heroes need a little help sometimes…

After spending years fighting for his country and too damn long learning to navigate life with a prosthetic leg, Grant Silver returns to Silver Island to figure out a future he couldn’t fathom without fatigues and a gun in his hand. He’d almost forgotten how a man could suffocate from the warmth and caring community in which he’d grown up, and if that weren’t bad enough, his buddies’ beautiful and far-too-chipper younger sister won’t stop flitting into his life, trying to sprinkle happy dust everywhere she goes.

As a cancer survivor, Jules Steele knows better than to count on seeing tomorrow. She doesn’t take a single moment for granted, and she isn’t about to let a man who used to be charming and full of life waste the future he’s been blessed with. She’s determined to get through to him, even if it takes a few steamy kisses…

My Review:

I received a complimentary copy of this book.

Jules Steele loves her family and her life on Silver Island.  She’s one of those people who is always happy, always sees the good side of every situation, and brings light and warmth wherever she goes.  As a toddler, she suffered a bout of cancer, which she really doesn’t remember, but her awareness of it has also made her appreciate every second of life she’s been given.  Jules’ best friend has an older brother, Grant, someone who has always been a part of her life.  As Grant was in military, then part of a top secret special ops group, he was often gone much of the time in recent years.  During his last leave at home, he seemed to have noticed Jules as a woman, and the sparks flew between them.  Then, Grant suffered a horrible injury which caused him to lose part of a leg, and most of his hearing on one side.  The man who returned to Silver Island is no longer the fun and charming man he used to be.  Unsure of his future, what he’s capable of doing, and mourning his losses, Grant just wants to be left alone.  He lives away from his family, avoids old friends, and certainly stays away from social situations.  The sparks that burned between him and Jules will just have to burn out, as he’s no longer fit for a relationship.  Or, is he?

Jules is determined to bring some happiness to Grant’s life, and hopefully, make him see how much his family and friends love and miss him.  Even if he no longer desires her, Jules is sure she can bring him around.  As much as Grant wants to fight Jules, her unending cheer and her generous spirit start to break through Grant’s defenses.  He finds Jules to be someone he can really talk to about his injury, his uncertainties, his wishes, and even his rift with his own family.  Grant also can’t deny that his libido has woken up big time whenever he’s around Jules, and he feels a strong desire for her whenever they’re together.  Their friendship and their new closeness turns to flirtatiousness, then genuine passion, then caring and love.  It’s not happy ever after, though, as a new possibility arises, one that may take Grant away from the new life he was just starting to plan.

MY TRUE LOVE is masterfully written, taking me into the world and people of Silver Island.  I felt that I really knew these characters, and fell in love with Jules and Grant.  Their journey was emotional and captivating – I could feel Grant’s pain and anguish while I marveled at Jules’s strength and determination.  Watching Grant begin to heal and find his way again was truly joyous. I would highly recommend MY TRUE LOVE for readers who love intense situations, a tender romance, family abounding, and plenty (yes, I do mean plenty) of steam, with a truly satisfying happy ending. ~Rose
